 Martin Luther King Jr. was born on 15 January 1929 in the United States. His name at the birth was Michael King, later his father named him Martin Luther King Jr. During Martin's time, the life of the African people was full of trouble.

In those days it was different law for White and Black. At the age of just 6 years, Martin experienced such discrimination for the first time. He played a very important role in the Civil Rights Movement in 1955. Martin believed in non-violence. He was inspired by the great leader of India, Mahatma Gandhi.
In 1963, Martin delivered the famous speech of his life "I have a dream". Martin wanted to establish a society in which there is no discrimination with anyone. The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964, underlining racial segregation and discrimination in the United States. In 1964, Martin won the Nobel Peace Prize. The third Monday of January every year is celebrated as Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
